PRO ELIT English | IGCSE English as a Second Language 2019 Update!

For those taking the CIE IGCSE English as a Second Language 0510 or 0511 in 2019, it is important to take note of the following changes affecting the Core Paper 1 and Extended Paper 2 (Reading and Writing).
The biggest change worth taking note of is the introduction of a new exercise - Multiple Matching. The task is pretty straightforward, where candidates read a number of short texts and answer by matching a series of questions or prompts to the appropriate texts. However, the fact that texts may be matched to one or more questions or prompts may cause some difficulty for candidates. Texts may also contain seemingly identical information which makes it essential for candidates to comprehend each text carefully.
In addition to the above, the first comprehension exercise (previously Exercise 1) and the information transfer exercise (previously Exercise 3) have been removed in the new format; reducing the total number of exercises to six from the previous seven.
The breakdown of the new Paper 1/Paper 2 are as follows:
Exercise 1 - Reading
Exercise 2 - Multiple matching
Exercise 3 - Note-taking
Exercise 4 - Summary writing
Exercise 5 - Writing
Exercise 6 - Writing
Cambridge has also decided to discontinue Component 6 (Speaking coursework) in the new syllabus. As such, candidates will no longer have the choice of a coursework assessment and will have to take Component 5 - the Speaking test.
